KOILAF Invitation for Polish Labor-Management Leaders Ended Successfully   The Korea International Labour Foundation (KOILAF), as part of its Overseas Tripartite Leaders Invitation Program, invited four Polish labor and management leaders from July 20 to 26 including Mr. Jacek Rybicki, Secretary of the National Commission of NSZZ Solidarinosc and Ms. Malgorzata Maria Rusewicz, Director of Social Dialogue and Social Affairs Department of Lewiatan, Polish confederation of private employers. The Polish delegation, which is the first European delegation ever invited in KOILAF Invitation Program, visited Korea¡¯s major tripartite organizations such as the Ministry of Labor (MOL), the Korea Employers Federation (KEF), the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), and the Economic and Social Development Commission (ESDC). In the afternoon, they had a lecture on Korea¡¯s industrial relations. On the next day, they visited the Korea Employers Federation (KEF) and were explained about Korea¡¯s pending labor issues from the perspectives of employers¡¯ side. When the delegation visited the Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU), they met with FKTU Vice President Kim Dong-Man and other officials. Mr. Kim welcomed the delegation, saying ¡°We take great interest in Polish labor relations and union activities as Poland produced a president with trade union background.¡± Regarding Korea¡¯s labor issue, he said, ¡°Top priority of the FKTU is to come up with a better legal protection for 8-million non-regular workers.¡± On July 23, they visited the Economic and Social Development Commission (ESDC) and Vice Chairman and other senior officials of the ESDC explained about the Commission¡¯s role, operation, and performance. At the Ministry of Labor (MOL), Mr. Rybicki commented ¡°So far, most briefings on Korea¡¯s labor situation at other organizations have focused on only negative aspects. However, MOL told us about positive aspects about Korea¡¯s labor situation, which is good.¡± The Polish delegation also visited Uijeongbu Foreign Workers¡¯ Center, which is run by KOILAF under the commission from the Ministry of Labor. They showed great interest in Korea¡¯s foreign workers¡¯ situation and policy and made a lot of inquiries. At the farewell dinner on Friday, the Polish delegation expressed their gratitude to Mr. Won, KOILAF President, for this chance of learning Korea¡¯s labor laws and systems. They said, ¡°This visit has served as an opportunity to promote their understanding on Korea and Korea¡¯s labor situation and will be helpful in coming up with Polish labor policy.¡± Mr. Rybicki even had an interview with a Daily Labor News reporter regarding Poland¡¯s labor situation and expressed his satisfaction for this Invitation Program during the interview. This invitation for the Polish delegation is regarded to open the floodgate to the invitation of European tripartite leaders, extending the scope of international exchanges in labor sector.
